How We Do It
An App we program on the iPad communicates using your wireless network.
We custom program the App for the specific equipment used and functionality required. We personalize the App with names of rooms and equipment descriptions that make sense to you.
The App sends and receives information to/from AV and Lighting control equipment using IP data, the same type of data used to communicate between computers on your home network and on the internet.
Unlike Infra-red communciation used by most remote controls, the IP communication used is 2-way. This allows equipment to be controlled and also monitored. By monitoring equipment the iPad app can display current settings, for example the source selected for a TV or the current lighting scene. Being able to see exitsing equipment settings makes it easier to understand and control your home.
Newer and higher specification equipment often includes a network connection that makes interfacing simple. For older equipment or where direct network control is not possible, we interface your existing equipment to make it network compatible and controllable from the iPad. Sometimes interfacing older equipment is cost effective but in some cases, it may be a better solution to upgrade equipment.
We advise suitability of existing equipment and specify any interfacing requirements for control as part of our design of you custom iPad app. Where it is not technically feasible to interface existing equipment we recommend and supply suitable replacement equipment, often with enhanced performance and functionality.
